Compulsive Gambling Treatment Program
| In
1982, Connecticut established the first state operated
treatment program for problem gamblers, The Compulsive
Gambling Treatment Program. Part of the Department of
Mental Health and Addiction Services, the program's
professional therapists help gamblers re-establish
manageability and direction in their lives. Stopping gambling,
a key to regaining control over one's own life, is
accomplished with the help of state of the art treatment
methods. An individualized treatment plan is developed for
each client. Treatment may include individual, group, and/or
family counseling, Clients are seen once or more each week
depending on the level of care needed to achieve their goals.
Typically, treatment addresses some or all the following: |
- Finding hope
- Reducing financial pressure
- Regaining self-esteem
- Coping with guilt, shame and remorse
- Stopping gambling
- Coping with urges and cravings to gamble
- Developing healthy relationships
- Managing life problems effectively
- Regaining trust and becoming trustworthy
